On May 11th, nine environmental undergrad students - Celia, Doug, Luciano, Thomas, Laryssa, Jacqueline, Ryan, Natalie, and Shannon - left Stonehill College in Easton, MA to travel to Oregon. In order to learn about the ecology of the Pacific Northwest, our small group was given the opportunity to travel to Oregon and Northern California to experience ecology firsthand. With the help of instructors Dr. Tim Sullivan and his daughter, Jenna Sullivan, we explored diverse ecosystems from the ocean to the high desert, and from the north coast of Oregon to as far south as the redwood forests in Northern California. This trip gave us the opportunity to apply our current knowledge, as well as learn more about plants, animals, fresh waters, estuaries, intertidal, Oregon dunes, open beaches, forests of all sorts, sagebrush steppe, the ocean, human impacts, and restoration solutions. Our goal was to learn so much information that we could not fit anymore into our fully packed brains, and this goal was most definitely met. Hopefully, this blog will enable you to follow us along our eleven day adventure through Oregon and Northern California, while learning all about the ecology of the west coast.
